Research Groups

  • The Cell Therapy Unit (UTC – Acronym in Spanish) has cleanrooms that meet GMP quality standards, for the manufacture of cell therapy products.
  • Research and development platform of products based on stem cells for their use in pre-clinical and clinical trials.
  • We promote the generation of knowledge and innovation in biomedical sciences through the different players in science and technology (public sector, academia and industry).

Projects In Development

 

  • Generation of innovative products for advanced therapy and its clinical application for the management of high impact chronic degenerative diseases as leukemia and lymphoma, of autoimmune and osteoarticular origin.

 

  • Supporting clinical research processes through the implementation of quality standards and good clinical practices (GCP) oriented to ethical and scientific management of patients.

 

  • Strengthening “Cellular Therapies Network” composed of research groups recognized by Colciencias, which are the parts of the National University, Andes University, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad del Rosario, El Bosque University, Universidad de Antioquia and Universidad del Valle.

 

  • Strengthening construction of the normatives and regulatory frameworks in cell therapy to reinforce the development and application of therapies with high ethical and quality standards.

 

  • Evaluation of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Wharton’s jelly-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (WJ-MSC) involved in immunomodulation of inflammatory processes.

 

  • Characterization of the immunoregulatory role of extracellular vesicles generated from Mesenchymal Stromal Cells from the umbilical cord as potential therapeutic tools in inflammation and immunity.

 

  • Effect of GALNS enzyme (N-acetylgalactosamine6-sulfatose) deficiency on the viability, proliferation, differentiation, osteogenesis and chondrogenesis of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells, a model of the Mucopolysaccharidosis type IV A, induced by mutagenesis mediated by CRISPR-Cas 9 (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats-associated protein-9)

 

  • Establishment and standardization of an extraction, processing and storage method of limbal stem cells.

 

  • Evaluation of the expression of factors involved in the repair of wounds in constructs generated with biological scaffolds and Mesenchymal Stromal Cells derived from Wharton’s jelly (WJ-MSC).
