To all public opinion we would like to inform you of the pleasant news that the project has today: “Research oriented towards the implementation of good practices for the clinical application of cellular therapies. Model: TPH in Bogotá “was approved unanimously by the Collegiate Body of Administration and Decision – OCAD of Science, Technology and Innovation for a total value of $ 12,530,211,296 financed by the General System of Royalties.
With this project presented by the District Financial Health Fund and formulated by the District Institute of Science, Biotechnology in Health Innovation – IDCBIS in association with the HOMI Foundation will benefit patients who are candidates for stem cell transplantation, in this way the strengthening the Science, Technology and Innovation system in the area of regenerative medicine.
This project is coordinated with previously approved projects by the General Royalty System in 2012 and 2016: “Implementation of the umbilical cord blood bank and the cell therapy unit in Hemocentro, Bogotá” and “Technical studies for the implementation of the national registry of hematopoietic progenitor donors “taking into account that the application model of good clinical practices for cell therapy will be Stem Cell Transplant.
Until the implementation of these projects, the access alternatives to the search for compatible donors of umbilical cord blood units, bone marrow or peripheral blood mobilized in Colombia were done only through international registries. In Colombia, the Blood Progenitor Stem Cell Transplantation of Banco Público was started as of this year with units that come from a genetically similar but not familiar Colombian donor.
This project is important for Colombia to become a pole of development of these therapies for its investigative, innovative approach in biotechnology for the public health service decreasing social inequality in a transnational context.
