The District Institute of Science, Biotechnology and Innovation in Health (IDCBIS), is a non-profit corporation of mixed character, in favor of individual and collective health, with legal status under private law, with administrative and financial autonomy and its own assets, linked to the District Health Secretariat.
The IDCBIS arises from the initiative to strengthen the work of more than 15 years, of a team that with the support of the district administration, the honorable Council of Bogota and under the guidelines of its scientific direction, turned the so-called Bank of Blood, Tissues and Cells-District Hemocenter today IDCBIS, into a scientific technical reference in the areas of its competence in the city, country and region, for the consolidation of structures oriented to the development and promotion of science, technology, innovation and research in health.

We are an institute of science, technology and innovation in health, with emphasis on medical and biotechnological research, which generates knowledge and scientific development, based on the strengthening of the capacities of human talent, infrastructure, quality culture and social commitment, for the management of knowledge and the provision of human biological products and inputs to serve the population.

Bernardo Armando Camacho Rodríguez – Director
Dr Camacho is a surgeon from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Master in Transfusion Medicine and Cell and Tissue Therapy from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona- Fundación Robert- Banc de Sang i Teixits Cataluña, Master in Science, Technology and Innovation Management from the Universidad de Antioquia. He began his professional work in transfusion medicine in the late 1970s, he was manager and scientific director of the Blood, Tissue and Cell Bank "Hemocentro Distrital" of the Secretariat of Health of Bogota between 1997 and 2017. Dr. Camacho was the creator of IDCBIS and currently serves as its director and legal representative.

To strengthen and promote a culture of citizenship for the donation of blood, blood components, human organs and tissues and cells for transplantation, regenerative medicine or research purposes.
To obtain, process, store and distribute human blood components, tissues and cells for transplantation, regenerative medicine or research purposes.
To serve as an advisory, consulting and reference entity for national and international entities in aspects related to the development of its corporate purpose.
Manage lines of research and technological innovation in various fields of human health sciences, with emphasis on transfusion medicine, tissue engineering, advanced therapies and regenerative medicine, in coordination with national and international academic and research centers.
To offer highly specialized and reference services in blood banking, human tissue banking, umbilical cord blood banking, advanced therapies, transfusion medicine, regenerative medicine and transfusion immunology and transplantation laboratory.
To develop and manage a Registry of Hematopoietic Progenitor Donors for research and transplantation purposes.
To develop activities aimed at the social appropriation of knowledge in the area of health, as well as the dissemination of science.
Other activities indicated in the bylaws and related to its corporate purpose.
